The methods which scientific research has shown to be effective are the “various generations of cognitive behaviour therapies”: 1) behaviour therapy, 2) cognitive therapy and 3) attention training. Although there is some overlap, the first two focus mainly on changing behaviour and thoughts. The third focuses more on accepting and dealing more effectively with emotions and thoughts, without wishing them to change. The third approach is an effective supplement for many people, especially in these demanding times when people set high requirements and experience a lot of stress. Not every approach is suitable for everyone. For that reason, we first discuss which approach will suit you best and what will be most effective for you.
